to buy a Bulgarian property: 1. Security. Bulgarians forever moan about petty crime, yet crime levels in most towns and cities, are low bycomprason with major world cities. Wiring your security system through to armed guards who guarantee to turn up within three minutes of an alarm will cost you some 200 euros a year. 2. Cost of living. A bottle of excellent Bulgarian wine cost some 2.5 euros. Beer is under 0.50 euros a bottle. Even imported goods are at half of their Western prices. 3. Distances. The seaside is no more than four hours away by car from any point in Bulgaria except the extreme North-West and South-East. You can walk to the beach in Varna and Bourgas. 4. Low taxes. Property taxes are incomparably lower than those you pay in West. 5. Location, location, location. Istanbul is but five hours away from Sofia by car. Salonika is four hours away. Budapest? Seven hours...
